Justice For Christianah

A poem that seeks to bring about understanding

This just in

Third-year student

Idowu Christianah

Declared missing a few weeks ago

Is confirmed to have been kidnapped

And murdered by her male friend

After demanding ransom from her family.

Why are so many women being killed these days?

Stop raping us!

Stop killing us!

We women don’t deserve such.

Okay then!

Who deserves it? Men?

We men are also victims of this

No one deserves this

We men are not monsters.

You men are so insensitive!

You are the ones killing women

And yourselves too

In fact

We should start killing men too

Let’s see how they like that.

Brothers!

Sisters!

This is not the way

To avenge our lost sisters.

Women,

As of late

A lot of violence

Has been force-fed to our late sisters

By some of our brothers

They deserve hell on earth

We understand your strife

But gender isn’t to blame

As some of our brothers

Are hunting down these animals

To ensure they endure fates

More dreadful than death.

Men,

It is true that our brothers

Have also been victims.

We understand your strife

But is this the right time

To bring this up?

Right after hearing news

Of a woman kidnapped

And killed by a male friend?

Do we go to a funeral

To tell a family that their son

Isn’t the only victim of cult violence?

Or that their daughter

Isn’t the only victim of underage rape?

We certainly do not.

Men and Women!

We need to stop this gender fight

We need to understand ourselves

In these difficult times.

God bless Nigeria

Stop killing women
